Nara - năm 1934

Trên đây là hình ảnh ngôi nhà điển hình ở Nara. Có thể nhìn thấy cờ cá chép (mừng Tết Đoan Ngọ mùng 5/5 - hay còn được biết đến là ngày bé trai) đang bay trong gió cho thấy bức ảnh được chụp vào khoảng cuối tháng 4 đến đầu tháng 5.

Ngày nay, đây vẫn là một ngày lễ lớn của Nhật, nhiều người vẫn nhớ những câu hát vần mà lũ trẻ thường vui vẻ ca:

Cá chép cao hơn cả mái nhà
Chép đen to là cha
Chép vàng nhỏ là con
Cùng bơi rất vui vẻ


Uống trà - năm 1920

Trong ảnh gồm 2 người phụ nữ và một người đàn ông đang ngồi trên tatami chuẩn bị uống trà. Người phụ nữ ngồi phía trước đã pha xong trà, chỉ còn đợi để thưởng thức mà thôi. Bên cạnh người đàn ông là một bếp than nhỏ để giữ ấm. Bạn có nhìn thấy những chiếc cửa lùa ở phía sau không? Nó dùng để ngăn phòng lớn thành nhiều phòng nhỏ, và nếu không thích bạn có thể dễ dàng cất chúng vào thì ta lại có một căn phòng rộng rãi, không những tiện lợi mà còn mang lại giá trị thẩm mĩ cao nữa. Nó còn có tác dụng làm căn phòng trở nên mát mẻ vào những ngày hè. Tuy nhiên nếu chia thành nhiều phòng nhỏ thì nhược điểm là thiếu sự riêng tư, kín đáo.


Cầu Kourai - Oosaka năm 1910

Cầu Kourai được hoàn thành lần đầu tiên vào thời Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1536-1598). Cây cầu này đã đóng một vai trò quan trọng trong suốt lịch sử của Osaka trong lĩnh vực thương mại. Năm Minh Trị thứ 3 (năm 1870), cầu gỗ được thay thể thành cầu sắt. Lúc bấy giờ cầu Kourai là niềm tự hào của người dân Osaka bởi lẽ nó là cây cầu sắt đầu tiên ở Osaka và cũng là cây cầu sắt thứ 2 trên khắp Nhật Bản. Năm Chiêu Hòa thứ 4 (năm 1929), cầu sắt lại được thay thế bằng bê tông.


Asakusa Nakamise - Tokyo năm 1920

Những cửa hàng lưu niệm tại đền Asakusa Sensoji ở Tokyo được xây dựng lần đầu tiên vào năm Minh Trị thứ 18 (năm 1885). Vào năm 1923, chúng đã bị phá hủy bởi đại thảm họa động đất Kanto (http://vi.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C4%90%E1%BA%A1i_th%E1%BA%A3m_h%E1%BB%8Da_%C4%91%E 1%BB%99ng_%C4%91%E1%BA%A5t_Kant%C5%8D_1923) và được xây dựng lại bằng bê tông vào năm 1925.

Đường Benten - Yokohama năm 1930

Đường Benten nằm trong khu mua sắm nhộn nhịp của Yokohama, nhưng những đặc sắc vốn có của nó hầu như đã bị phá hủy trong trận động đất khủng khiếp Kanto vào năm 1923. Bức ảnh này được chụp sau khi con đường đã được phục hồi. Một của hàng bên góc phải của bức ảnh có tên Jussenya (十銭屋) tương đương với các shop 100 yên rất phổ biến của Nhật Bản ngày nay.

Những người phụ nữ trong trang phục truyền thống đang giặt quần áo trong bồn tắm nhỏ tại nơi giặt công cộng ở Kamakura. Trước khi có sự ra đời của máy giặt, thì đây là công việc mất nhiều thời gian và nặng nhọc.

Xe trên Tokaido - Tokaido năm 1930

Một chiếc xe đơn độc trên đường Tokaido, là con đường nối Edo (Tokyo hiện nay) và Kyoto trong thời kỳ Edo. Bức ảnh được chụp vào năm 1930, cách Yokohama khoảng 48 km (30 dặm). Những cảnh đẹp nổi tiếng thu hút khách du lịch ở Tokaido đã sớm biến mất sau khi tuyến đường sắt đầu tiên giữa Tokyo và Kobe được hoàn thành vào cuối những năm 1880.
